Yes, they can. Just like any plastic material, aroma beads can melt if exposed to extreme heat. Car freshies are made by baking aroma beads at around 345°F, so if your car interior reaches very high temperatures—especially in direct sunlight—there is a possibility of melting.
However, melting is not common. Out of the hundreds of thousands of car freshies we've made, we've only ever had one incident of a freshie melting off the string—and it was solid black, which absorbs more heat.
How to Prevent Your Car Freshie from Melting:
- Always hang it from your rearview mirror. Never leave it lying flat, especially on the dashboard.
- Park in the shade when possible.
- Avoid dark-colored freshies if your car gets extremely hot often or use a sunshade to reduce the interior heat.
Not all car freshies will melt just because the car gets hot—it’s typically preventable with the right care.
